Fujitsu has launched many new laptops in their LifeBook range. Besides the LifeBook LH772 and LH532 which were presented a few days ago, now the company launched the first laptop featuring air purification system.

Fujitsu began on 9th of May to announce their new range of laptops. It began with two 14-inch models, the LifeBook LH532 and the LH772, which were officially launched yesterday. Company returns with more information about its new models, equipped with the new Ivy Bridge technology from Intel.

LifeBook UH75UH is a 14-inch laptop and has a 15.6mm thick at its thinnest point (being presented as the thinnest laptop in the world) and a weight of 1.44 Kg. The LifeBook UH55UH on the other hand comes with a 13.3 inch display – both models are available in red or silver.

LifeBook SH76H comes with a 16.6mm thick, weighs 1.34 kg and is part of Fujitsu’s ultra portable range. No optical drive, it seems that the battery will provide a range of up to 14 hours of lifetime and will most likely come with a 128GB SSD hard drive. LifeBook AH78HA comes with a 15.6-inch display and is the first notebook featuring the “nano” air purification system.

All new systems introduced by Fujitsu are completed by My Cloud – a feature that works with FlashAir SD cards for data transfer from camera to PC. Also, My Cloud comes with voice command to easily organize photo albums.

Lumus is the company that announced a revolutionary new product, a pair of 3D video glasses capable 720p video rendering. The lens creates a virtual display seen at a distance of 10 meters by the viewer.

Lumus video glasses can play 720p videos. They can also play 3D thanks to a system working independently of each lens. When “off”, the lens remains a normal glass, but can be adapted for people with vision problems. So far, we know that is compatible with iPhone, in the future would be good to be compatible with a wider range of products. Lumus 3D video glasses will be presented at CES 2012, but until then, those from Lumus are seeking companies especially interested in the new technology from the gaming industry.

I find it amazing that they managed to produce such a quality product that offers portability and almost unimaginable graphic levels. Perhaps fans of movies and games will be the most ecstatic, but I cannot help wondering what effect it has on vision. There is still controversy about the fact that television lead to vision problems. I do not know if it has been proven that staying close to a display can affect the eyes, but I’m curious if there have been studies regarding wearing 3D video glasses, this close to the retina.

For Asus, Lamborghini series is their top line, a series that combines performance with an aggressive look, yet extravagant. From the outset I will say that I was never a big fan of the line, not a fan of “loaded” laptop design and prefering a notebook with an excellent price / performance and a classic look. But of course this does not prevent me to recognize VX7′s qualities, where appropriate.

Technical specifications

At firts, let’s take a look at the list of specifications, to know what to expect.

- Display: 15.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, TN LCD, glossy
- Processor: Intel Core i7-2630QM Sandy Bridge, 2.0 GHz
- Chipset: Mobile Intel ® HM65 Express
- Graphics: Nvidia GTX 460M 3GB
- RAM: 4 x 4 GB DDR3
- Hard disk: 2 x 500 GB Seagate SSH
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wireless N, Gigabit Lan
- Ports: 1 x USB 3.0, 3 x USB 2.0, VGA, HDMI, audio, small card reader
- Battery: 5200 mAh 8-cell 74 Wh
- Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate
- Dimensions: 402 x 309 x 58 mm
- Weight: about 3.8 kg
- Others: 2.0 megapixel webcam, Blu-Ray combo optical drive, backlit keyboard

Therefore, the configuration does not disappoint us, VX7 offering a top-line hardware platform, able to handle any demands.

Exterior and design

Certainly, VX7 is a laptop with a special design. Lines look sharp, and elements borrowed from Lamborghini cars stand out and make this laptop a special appearance. Appearance will be appreciated more by “style” notebook fans and less by people like me, followers of a classic design, approaching the ThinkPad series.

However, we can’t discuss tastes, and I’m away from saying that VX7 is an ugly laptop. However, I can say that it seems too loaded, too bright and too sensitive (will easily take fingerprints or scratch) for my needs and preferences.

VX7 is a massive notebook, imposing, measuring about 6 cm in thickness and weighing about 4 pounds, which makes it an ideal desktop replacement laptop, and less for travel.

Raising the display cover, the interior is impressive by aesthetics and the quality of materials used. Palm rest is covered with leather and trackpad and the buttons above the keyboard combines with the aggressive line of the laptop.

Keyboard and trackpad

The keyboard offers the classic style met by Asus laptops, with keys well shaped and spaced. Basically, the keyboard behaves very well in daily use, and the keys offer a good race, not annoying, without flex or noise.

In addition, the keyboard is illuminated and the illumination can be adjusted as needed. But, as with most illuminated keyboards, lights beneath the keys become annoying when you use your laptop on the desk, because visible light is around and especially below the buttons.

The trackpad does not disappoint, but also does not impress. It is not very large, because the size must blend with design, but it is very accurate. The glossy surface will take fingerprints very quickly and can be difficult to maintain. The two click buttons are perfect, with a very nice response.

Display

Asus decided to equip the model with a 15.6-inch screen, Full HD 1920×1080 pixels resolution, which personally, I find an overkill for systems using Windows 7.

VX7′s display is superior to any laptop made by Asus, but could be even better: Asus provides matte displays with extended gamut color on N55SF or G74SX models, and certainly such a solution would have been expected to their top model.

Hardware and performance

If there is one aspect where we can’t complain about Lamborghini VX7, it is the technical platform and performance. Inside, the VX7 holds a quad-core Intel Core i7-2630QM, a dedicated graphics chip – Nvidia GTX 460M 3GB, 16GB RAM and two SSH drives of 500 GB and 7200 rpm (attention, we talk about SSH drives – besides offering dedicated storage space, they feature 4 GB of flash memory for a faster access to important information).

Lamborghini VX7 allows you to wander in any application in almost any condition, as a real fireball. Resource-hungry applications (graphics editors, working with RAW’s, 3D rendering programs), films of any kind and the latest games, all can be run successfully on the VX7.

Below you will find some of the results in synthetic tests.

- PCMark Vantage 64 bit – 9433 points;
- PCMark 7 Basic – 3103 points;
- 3DMark Vantage High – 8064 (GPU 6818 / CPU 17435) points;
- 3DMark11 Performance 1794 points;
- 3DMark11 Extreme: 583 points;

Of the games I played smoothly are titles like NFS: Shift 2, Anno 1404, COD Black Ops sau Dirt 3, all in maximum native resolution and detail. Of course, there are titles for which you have to cut a bit of graphics, such as Crysis 2 and Metro 2033, but do not forget that we talk about a laptop here, and not a desktop dedicated to modern games.

Autonomy

Of course, when we talk about the autonomy of such a “monster”, don’t expect too much. This is not a portable laptop, and hardly one that will leave the office with its four kg.

In these conditions, a range that goes up to three hours under casual use, with the screen brightness to 30%, is appreciated. Of course, in the daily use autonomy decreases, hovering somewhere at two hours or so, and when you run 1080p video content and games, battery life will decrease even more.

Other details

Various aspects should be more or less important to mention here, starting with the two megapixel webcam, continuing with Blu-Ray Combo optical drive, leading connectivity (Wireless N, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN) and ending with the fact that laptop does not heat up excessively and is not noisy, not even under high load (running some games for a few hours).

Conclusions

Lamborghini VX7 is not a bad laptop. On the contrary, is a well-built and powerful laptop. And for those who appreciate styling, you will find it very nice.

Asus Lamborghini VX7 is a powerful gaming laptop for those who want a portable to amaze, to attract the eyes of others. Performance comes as a plus, not being able to miss from a laptop bearing the Lamborghini automobiles logo. But surely this is a secondary element of the success of the exclusive series from Asus.

If we take VX7 for a comparation, we see that it does not differ very much from an Asus G53SW or G53SX (except outside, the hardware differences are quite small), and the two are considerably cheaper (by about $1000) and they show no harm at all. In addition, the slightly larger, Asus G74 offers superior performance and extra features at a price lower than that of the Lamborghini VX7 laptop.

That said, it is up to you to decide if the Lamborghini VX7 justifies its price.

Samsung announced two new models in the ultrabook range. The new portables are equipped with Intel Core i5 CPU’s, but only one of them falls into the Ultrabook category, under the umbrella of Intel.

Viewed at first as only modest solutions in terms of configurations compared with desktop computers, laptops have finally come to be used including for playing the latest games. Thus now, we are not surprised by the notion of “gaming laptop”, attributed to devices configured with top graphics cards, although, inevitably there are some disadvantages for them.

No doubt, portability and low autonomy are two major disadvantages of a gaming laptop (obviously, besides the high price). On the one hand, powerful components and 15″ – 17″ display contributes to weight gain, and on the other hand, you cannot claim to have a good autonomy when you use the most advanced graphics cards and processors.

So if you want to buy a laptop for gaming performance, you must look for a desktop replacement that will hardly leave the office. The good part is that you’ll escape of many cables and gain more space in a compact format.

However, over the years have been revealed three types of laptops for gaming: typical laptop with decent features and peak prices, top powerful laptops, and portable laptops specifically built for gaming. We will examine each of these segments and give some examples of notebooks for each category.

Typical gaming laptops:

If your budget is quite limited, but still want a laptop for games, prepare to allocate a minimum of $800 for such a purchase. Otherwise, you will notice that prices are much higher, and good offers at reasonable price are quite rare.

Dell Inspiron N5110 – The proposed laptop model from Dell is of 15.6″ diagonal with 1366 x 768 pixels resolution and is equipped with an Intel Core i7 2670QM at 2.2 GHz frequency, NVIDIA GT 525M graphic card, 8GB DDR3 RAM and 750 GB HDD. Audio is provided by SRS Premium Sound technology and connectivity options are as follows: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, USB 3.0 x2, USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA. The laptop costs $800 with FreeDOS operating system, or $950 with Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit version.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y570A – Chinese from Lenovo comes with a similar offer, but offers a stronger video card: Nvidia GT 550, this laptop is equipped with an Intel Core i7 2670QM at 2.2 GHz frequency, 6 GB DDR3 RAM and 750 GB HDD. Connectivity options are: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, USB 3.0 x2, USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA. Weight is 2.7 kg, and the laptop integrates Kensington Lock technology, which provides protection against theft. The price for this laptop starts from $1000 with FreeDOS and reaches $1150 with Windows 7 Home Premium OS.

Acer Aspire 5750G – Acer is renowned for top laptops offered at decent prices, and this is why it can’t miss this top. The present model has a screen diagonal of 15.6″, comes with an Intel Core i7 2670QM CPU at 2.2 GHz frequency, NVIDIA GT 540M video card, 4 GB of RAM and 750GB HDD. A total of $1000 paid for a decent package of 2.6 kg.

Toshiba P755-10M – In a design that includes a 15.6″ display, this model from Toshiba offers a hardware platform consisting of Intel Core i7 2630QM running at 2 GHz, Nvidia GT 540M video card, 8 GB of RAM and 500 GB HDD. The laptop enjoys the benefit of Harman Kardon speakers, and is featuring Wi-Fi, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 x3, HDMI and VGA. It costs $1300 and comes with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Portable laptops for gaming:

If portability plays an important role for you and you want to transport your laptop easily, you have to use a portable notebook of 11.6″ diagonal, or 13.3″, which comes in a compact package and is about 2 kg. Prices are higher, therefore you must be very “generous”.

Alienware M11x – Owned by those from Dell, Alienware continues to release top laptops with a special design for gamers, and M11x is one of the best example: the display is 11.6″, powered by an Intel Core i7 2617M CPU at 1,5 Ghz frequency, and Nvidia GT 540M video card, plus 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. The keypad is illuminated for night game sessions, and the special design wins you at first sight. The price is: $2000 with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Dell Vostro 3350 – Dell is well represented in this category, and this model with a display of 13.3″ is accompanied by an Intel Core i7 CPU 2640M at 2.8 GHz frequency, AMD HD 6490 video card. This time, storage is done on a classic 750 GB HDD, which has the advantage of a more generous space. Unfortunately, is weighing 2.1 kg, making it somehow difficult to carry. The price is $1400 and includes Windwos 7 Home Premium.

Sony Vaio VPCSA3Q9E – Sony could not miss this party: The Vaio model that we present has a display diagonal of 13.3″, Intel Core i7 2620M at 2.7 GHz, and the first time in this article, AMD 6630M HD video card. Unfortunately, you must be content with 4 GB RAM and only 128 GB SSD, by far the worst versions of this article. The advantages are the fingerprint reader and a weight of only 1.59 kg, but even so, the price of $1800 is quite high.

Dedicated gaming laptops:

Without limits. That might characterize the laptop category created specifically for gaming, where we find the best components for video card and processor, and displays offering Full-HD resolution. As for prices… dedicated too…

Asus G74SX – Under the brand Republic of Gamers (ROG), Asus has a wide variety of dedicated gaming laptops, and G74SX is one of them. With a screen of 17.3″, this “monster” is equipped with an Intel Core i7 2670QM at 2.2 GHz frequency, Nvidia GTX 560M video card, 8 GB of RAM and 750 GB HDD. The keyboard is also illuminated, but do not expect to move it too easily from your office, as weighing 4.28 kg. For this laptop, you must dig for $1600.

Toshiba Qosmio F750-10M 3D – Not only is it a laptop for gaming, but displays 3D images that you can watch without special glasses. This is the Qosmio, a laptop model of the Japanese range from Toshiba, it comes with a display of 15.6″, Intel Core i7 2630QM at 2 GHz, Nvidia GT 540M video card, 8 GB RAM and a HDD capacity of 500 GB. The format also allowed the inclusion of a Blu-ray device, while the weight is only 2.9 kg. The price? $1800.

Alienware M17xR3 – Without doubt, this is the best laptop from the top: it has a screen of 17.3″ offering Full-HD resolution, an Intel Core i7 at 2.0 GHz and the most powerful video card of the moment: AMD Radeon HD 6990M. Add to that 6 GB of RAM and 1.5 TB HDD and you have a complete picture of a monster weighing 4.26 kg, of course, we have a nicely backlit keyboard too. Unfortunately, the price is: $2600.

Conclusions:

If you want a laptop especially for gaming, there are the solutions for almost every budget, starting from the premise that you cannot have a good notebook for modest sums. Depending on your budget, you can choose a decent laptop for games of up to $800, or you can switch to portable solutions priced between $1400-$1800, or specially designed gaming laptops reaching even over $3000.

The appearance of a highly developed tablet markets, generated by release of the first Apple iPad in April 2010, has radically changed the situation, especially as many other manufacturers rely on such gadgets. Many of those planning to buy a laptop now wonder if a tablet is more suitable for their needs than a laptop, but the answer is not as simple as it seems at first sight.

Brief definitions: what is a tablet and what is a laptop?

Tablet is a portable computer equipped with a touchscreen display, usually having a screen diagonal between 7″ and 10″, which can be used only by touching the screen. The relatively small size and absence of any physical keyboard and mouse provide high portability, especially for the 7-inch tablets.

Instead, the laptop is a portable version of traditional desktop computers. In principle, it offers you the same type of functionality as a PC, but portability cost a price: the same type of hardware costs are significantly higher when compared to purchase a desktop PC, and often, laptops cannot be used for certain high-demanding activities.

Hardware features:

Tablets have technical features significantly weaker than laptops, as it does not require as much computing power. Apple iPad tablet is having an A5 processor with a frequency of 1 GHz, while the remaining manufacturers usually rely on the Tegra 2 platforms, with dual-core processors of the same frequency. Data storage is done on flash memory, with capacities ranging from 8GB to 64 GB, which can be expanded by microSD cards (except iPad tablet).

Instead, laptops rely on mobile versions of hardware found on PCs. The offer is more generous to all chapters, but at the moment the most popular options are laptops with Intel SandyBridge platform (Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7), working in parallel with integrated or dedicated graphics cards from Intel, AMD or Nvidia. Exceptions are laptops that have Intel Atom processor with a slower frequency of 1.6 GHz. Data storage is done on 2.5″ HDDs that can reach up to 500 GB or 1 TB, or SSDs, especially found in ultrabook laptop series.

Both gadgets can connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi technology, and possibly have 3G, and HDMI port.

Autonomy:

In tablets have less impressive hardware, they can keep up to even 10 hours of usage. Such autonomy will be rarely met on netbooks, and almost never on typical laptops. Therefore, if battery autonomy is an important factor, you should take this into account.

Software:

Probably the biggest difference between a tablet and a laptop can be found at the software chapter, since this is the level that you permanently interact with on a tablet or a portable.

The tablet comes with an operating system completely different from that used on the PC, whether we speak of IOS available on Apple iPad, Google’s Android or less dispersed WebOS in the recently launched HP tablets. Regardless of the three operating system, tablet software is based on applications that are intuitive and easier to use than software programs available on the PC, and installing and uninstalling them is quick and efficient.

In addition, the tablet operating system is found in a similar release on smartphones and other high-end mobile devices. Unfortunately, the number of applications developed for Google Android tablet is reduced, but this will probably resolve over time.

Instead, the laptop relies on the same operating system found on PCs, which is in general Windows 7. Basically, there are no differences between software available on the laptop and PC, so that compatibility is not an issue.

What you can use the tablet or the laptop for?

It is obvious that two such different gadgets have completely opposite degrees of use. In the light of its simplicity, the tablet is more end user friendly as allows you quick access to basic functions: It starts more quickly, you can immediately check your email, and internet browsing is much easier than on a phone display due generous site. You can also watch online videos, or you can play titles developed specifically for this platform.

For a laptop, you can use it as well as a regular PC, with the advantage of portability. You can edit emails and long texts, you can use graphics editing programs, and in most cases, you can watch HD movies. In addition, your laptop allows you to use many programs more or less professional in terms of their complexity, that are not found on tablets.

Price: tablets, more expensive than laptops

If we refer to prices, tablets are generally higher priced than laptops. The cheapest iPad cost $600, while laptop manufacturers rely on prices that start from even only $300, depending on the configuration, and most are within the range of $500-$800. There are cheaper tablets up to $300, but they are offered by less-known producers. Instead, there are many netbooks that can be purchased for less than $350, and for a price between $600 and $700 you can get a portable laptop with superior technical features.

Therefore, the decision to buy a tablet rather than a laptop has completely different arguments than price.

Conclusion: tablet or laptop?

If you want a gadget that is very easy to transport and use, which you can navigate easily on the Internet and eventually to relax with basic games like Angry Birdse, then a tablet is ideal for you. It’s a fun gadget and primarily dedicated to relaxation.

However, for everyday activities that involve the use of professional software, including applications such as Office, you’ll need the power of a laptop. In addition, it allows you watching HD movies on a larger display.

The tablet will gradually replace the netbook:

We cannot conclude this guide without saying a word about convergence of tablets and netbooks. Although it is too early yet, at one time the tablets will replace netbooks just because of the ease of use, and this trend is already visible, including if we consider the emergence of products such the Asus EEE Pad Transformer, that by attaching a physical keyboard, the tablet turns into a netbook.

In addition, laptops have already appeared to have abandoned the physical keyboard in favor of an additional display which can display a virtual keyboard, such the Acer Iconia. It is possible that soon, tablets and laptops will come only with virtual keyboards.

Until then, you only have to choose what suits you best, between a tablet and a laptop.

Until a few years ago, the choice was very simple: when you leave town for a few days you take your laptop with you to handle various professional tasks or to relax with a movie on the way.

Netbooks have brought the benefits of a regular laptop in a compact, affordable and easy to carry device, but lately, the revolution starts to lean in favor of tablets.

At least for now, the two product segments meet different needs, which is why many of us hardly dared to take a final decision: to buy a tablet or a netbook?

Portability:

In terms of portability, the tablets are the ideal solution: weigh less, are thinner and are easier to carry than any netbook. For these reasons, the tablet has undeniable advantages compared to netbooks and can perform almost all basic tasks: check and write emails, surf the Internet, minimal reading and editing of office documents, watching full-HD movies.

In other words, the tablet is an ideal gadget for holidays or a weekend out of town, when it is assumed that you do not need the additional options offered by a netbook.

Simplicity of use:

One of the major differences between tablets and netbooks comes from usage. Tablets are used intuitively by simply pressing the touch screen display, in the same manner as for smartphones, applications are easy to download and use, with an intuitive interface. In addition, the start time of the tablet is reduced.

Instead, netbooks require more patience: in addition to over one minute initialization of the operating system, accessing programs can sometimes be time consuming, especially if you need to check many of their settings. For netbook care you must periodically delete various useless application programs and traces of them in the system, use HDD defragmentation apps and the like.

Compatibility with other software and gadgets:

Tablets are using an operating system adapted from smartphones, whether we are talking about Apple iPhone models with iOS or Google Android. Therefore, if you’re a user who intensively uses smartphones, you will be able to enrich your experience with tablets.

Instead, netbooks and mini laptops with a regular diagonal of 11″ ,usually use Windows 7, same as most desktop systems. Therefore, if your work takes place mainly on the desktop, netbooks might be a better partner, especially if you need the same software you use on your desktop computer.

Hardware platform:

Tablets require significantly less computing power than netbooks, so that here you find A5 CPU with a frequency of 1 GHz (like the iPad 2 tablet) or, often, Nvidia Tegra 2 paltforma equipped with 1 GHz Dual-core processor. Data storage is flash memory with a capacity of 4 GB – 64 GB, which can addup by microSD cards (except for iPad 2).

In contrast, netbooks are using Intel Atom platform processors up to 1.6 GHz, AMD begin to make timid appearance in the notebook landscape. Data is stored on the old HDD’s up to 500GB or even 1TB. One of the few things in common is connectivity: both devices benefit from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI ports (not all tablets).

Autonomy:

Compact format, components specially designed for low power consumption and operating systems are friendly to a tablet, autonomy resources go to 10 hours. This drops to 6-8 hours for the intensive use of Wi-Fi or 3G or when we watch a movie in HD, but even so, values remain higher than those offered by netbooks. In exceptional cases, notebooks get 5-7 hours of use, but most times you will have to settle for four hours of battery life.

When tablet is turning into netbook:

As you probably deduced in this article, tablets and netbooks are still different ‘species’: you cannot give up completely if you have a tablet netbook. So if you want to have part of both, you need to buy two products … or you could try a ‘hybrid’.

Asus is the best in this segment: Eee Pad Transformer allows you to attach a physical keyboard to the tablet, resulting in a full-fledged netbook, while in the Eee Pad Slider the keyboard is integrated.

Designed for those who want a special portable computer, with sober design and capable of enterprise performance – the Lenovo’s E420S, part of the Thinkpad Edge series is designed for small and medium entrepreneurs.

Technical specifications:

Display: 14-inch, 1366×768 pixels resolution, glossy anti-glare
CPU: Core i5-2410M at 2.3 GHz
Hybrid Graphics: Intel HD Graphics and AMD Radeon 6630 HD with 2GB VRAM
RAM memory: 4GB DDR3-1333 MHz
HDD: 320 GB, 7200 rpm
Modem: WWAN Ericsson F5521gw integrated
Ports: 2xUSB 2.0 and 1xUSB+eSata combo, HDMI, VGA, card reader, Webcam
Connectivity: Wireless N, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN
Battery: 4-cell Li-Ion
OS: Windows 7 Professional
Size: 349 x 236 x 23.1/31.2 mm
Weight: 1.88 kg

Exterior design:

Housing of the Lenovo E420S inherits the classical characteristic style of all ThinkPads – decorated with chrome elements encountered at Edge series. The entire body is covered with plastic, but a slightly rubberized plastic mat texture, very pleasant to the touch and probably long-lasting.

The design inspires simplicity and elegance, being limited to a minimum. Thus, even the status LEDs have been removed, and this might to dislike some of you. The ThinkPad Edge E420S is a laptop with an exterior that impresses with its austerity and quality of materials and finishes.

In addition, the laptop chassis under the plastic case, is made of metal alloys to give it extra rigidity. However, the screen cover is not as strong, strongly pressing on the back makes effects visible on the outside screen (an issue actually met in most laptops today).

The E420s is not necessarily a portable laptop, the “portable” label is given in general to 13.3-inch or smaller models. However, this notebook weighs just 1.88 kg, with battery included, and is one of the lightest in its class and being able to safely compete with lower-range models in size.

Keyboard and trackpad:

You’ll encounter a few issues when you’ll use this keyboard: FN and CTRL keys are reversed in the left (but this may be fixed in BIOS) and F keys have various functions and role programs, and the F1-F12 does not, which is extremely frustrating for those who use these keys usually.

Of course, the keyboard is ergonomic and comfortable. Keys are slightly rounded at the bottom, well spaced and should settle even the most demanding users.

Additionally, the keyboard is protected from liquids, in other words, if you spill something on your laptop, the liquid will flow through the specially designed holes and will not affect the integrity of the laptop, and this is very appreciated.

The trackpad uses the same solution like other Lenovo laptops: a sizeable touchpad with integrated click buttons and a TrackPoint with dedicated buttons above it, both do well in everyday use.

Overall, the keyboard and trackpad found on the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420S are both satisfactory.

Display:

The 14-inch screen of the ThinkPad E420S offers a resolution of 1366×768 pixels, this should be enough for most applications. Brightness and colors are above average, and the visibility angles are pretty good.

Additionally, the screen is quite bright. Those from Lenovo boast an anti-glare layer that covers the display, but in reality, it doesn’t make his presence felt at all. Of course, the screen is not as polished as in some of Asus, Toshiba or Acer laptops, but its use outside or in bright light will not be pleasant at all.

The screen can fold completely, up to 180 degrees, making it a versatile laptop during “special” cases as in a bed, chair or sofa.

Hardware and performance:

The model tested was equipped with an Intel Core i5-2410M, hybrid graphics Intel Graphic 3000 plus AMD Radeon 6630 HD, 4GB memory and 320 GB HDD at 7200 rpm. A powerful configuration for a laptop, being powerful enough for enterprise use.

E420S will successfully handle all applications and tasks that you will obey, from the banality browsing up to HD video editing or other resource-hungry software (complex reporting tools, compilers, and so on). In addition, any multimedia content or any modern game can run without problems.

Connectivity:

We have almost nothing to reproach in terms of connectivity and ports offered. We have Wireless N adapter, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN and WWAN (3G) with GPS among standard ports.

Battery autonomy:

You should expect a battery life of about five hours for average daily use, which is very good for a 14-inch laptop.

It should also be noticed that the battery is integrated in the housing, people from Lenovo resorting to this trick to reduce the size and weight of the laptop. This mean that the battery will not be easy to change, and those who tend to remove the battery from the notebook when using it plugged cannot do so.
