The Lenovo X1 Carbon ultrabook has a diagonal of 14″, is made of carbon-fiber and comes equipped with the new Intel hardware platform – Ivy Bridge. A direct descendant of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1, the new model brings a simpler design based on carbon-fiber and includes improved adaptations required by the new generation of ultrabook laptops. The total weight is only 1.36 kg.
Besides carbon, the new ThinkPad uses magnesium materials, and its maximum thickness is 18 mm, being one of the thinnest 14″ ultrabooks released to date.
Another good feature is related to the screen performance, which features 1600×900 pixel resolution, superior to the 1366×768 pixels of most competitors currently available on the market.
The keyboard has also undergone some minor changes compared with the present version of the acclaimed predecessor, is illuminated and liquid-proof, while the trackpad is large and made of glass, maintaining the classic TrackPoint on the ThinkPad models with two click buttons positioned at the top.
As expected, the new hardware platform is provided by Intel Ivy Bridge with Intel HD 4000 graphics. The range of processors will include Intel Core i3 units, as well as Intel Core i5 and Core i7. In addition, there are up to 8 GB RAM of ram and equipped with SSD’s of 128 GB or 256 GB for data storage, plus SD card slots.
Connectivity is provided by Wi-Fi, but Lenovo is counting on this optional 3G module for connection to Internet-based services provided by one operator with ordinary SIM cards. This will certainly be useful to those who travel a lot in areas with more or less free wireless connections.
Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and a headphone jack are also present on the device. The Lenovo’s X1 Carbon will be equipped with Rapid Charge function that enables charging 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes.
The new Lenovo X1 Carbon seems to have some advantages in terms of portability compared to some of its rivals: a module capable of 3G internet connection, and a battery that is charged in only 30 minutes.
