Motorola has officially announced the launch of two new Android tablets. Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition will come equipped with 10.1″ inch screen, and respectively 8.2″. The technical specifications for the two models are identical, except their display size.
Thus, both tablets come equipped with dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM and a total storage capacity of 16 GB. Each tablet will be equipped with a 5 megapixel front camera, and a 1.3 MP secondary camera for video calls and conferences. At the technical level, the two models promise an improved processing and graphical performance by up to 20% compared to the previous Motorola tablets.
A minor disadvantage may be that the two tablets will have the Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS. But we can expect a future update to the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
Motorola Xoom weights with about 100 grams less than its predecessor, and has the following dimensions: 253.9 mm x 173.6 mm x 8.8 mm and 599 grams. Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition is smaller (139 mm x 216 mm x 8.99 mm and 386 grams), due to its 8.2″ inch screen. Both models present Gorilla Glass level display technology.
Xoom 2 has an autonomy range of 10 hours while the Xoom 2 Media Edition has a range of only 6 hours.
At the application level, must be noted the new Motocast program designed by Motorola for both tablets. Motocast can be very useful in that it allows fast transfer of the files from PC or MAC, and other tablets, without the need for a dedicated cable or software.
For now, the two tablets were officially announced for the UK market and will arrive in stores in mid-November. And in other places the new Xoom tablets are expected to arrive by the end of the year. There are no official information regarding the price of the two models, but the sum is believed to be around $1800-$2200.
